The house was basically renovated, new stage technology and new stalls were installed. The portal zone and the orchestra pit have also been redesigned. In the former third rank area a separate recording studio has been set up. The audio technology in the house was renewed with digital components such as crossbars and mixing consoles, and new loudspeakers were also installed at new positions. The hall was also equipped with updated video and stage management technology and a reverberation extension system SIAP.
In the run-up to the general refurbishment of the "Großes Haus", a new building was erected directly next to the theater in order to maintain the play operation during the subsequent general refurbishment of the existing building in the premises (studio stage with technical control room, rehearsal stage, foyer, canteen, administrative rooms).
After completion of the general refurbishment of the 'Großes Haus', the studio stage serves as a supplementary venue for the Gera Theater. The studio stage has typical stage, light and media technology features. In the rear hall area of the studio stage, a control room with digital sound facilities was arranged.
