ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH

After the defeat of the German division, and upon meeting the objective requirements, the engineering firm ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was initially founded with two colleagues. From day one, the software program EASE, which was at that time still DOS-based, was available. As a result, the feasibility of room- and electro-acoustic designs could be efficiently verified. Large projects during the early 90s, such as the planning of a new sound reinforcement system for the German Opera (Deutsche Oper) in Berlin, supported the start-up phase.

A similar experience was gathered during the reconstruction of the Plenary Assembly of the Parliament in Ankara, where in 1996, for the first time, a fingerprint system for the identification of the Members of Parliament was introduced, which is still in operation in its original form till today. The number of awarded contracts in the country and abroad was then increasing as well as the number of employees. In 2010, the activities profile of the sole-property company ADA Acoustic Design Ahnert was transferred to ADA Acoustics & Media Consultants GmbH. Major tasks are still ahead of our team, such as the extensive Al Maktoum International Airport, which is currently under construction and is intended in its first construction phase to serve around 120 million passengers per year.

Hamburg - Germany 2007 - 2016

New construction on old warehouse building in Hamburg harbor
Design of the sound system as voice alarm system in all three halls and in the large foyer

Client:
Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg

Architect:
Herzog & de Meuron

ADA Scope of services:
Planning of the voice alarm system appointed by HochTief Solutions AG
Room acoustic recommendations in selected corridors and lobby areas

Project data:

  • Start of planning: 2007
  • Completion: 2016
  • Extent of services performed Voice alarm system: approx. € 0.8 million

The three halls and the eight-floor high foyer were created as computer models in the EASE software program. In this context, the acoustic data was collected from the acoustic consultant Nagata Acoustics Ass., when available, or was created by ADA through material data collected from the architect.
In the two large halls, digitally controlled line arrays are employed.
Large Hall: Lowerable central cluster consisting of 6 CAL64 systems from Meyer Sound Inc., and in the front podium corners, 2 more CAL32 systems for the sound reinforcement of the front rows area are installed.
Small Hall: Two Intellivox DSX280 HD were installed to the left and right of a small podium. In addition, ceiling speakers are employed.
In both rooms, mobile sound systems are used for special events such as music performances, rock and pop events, etc.
In the large hall, up to 81 absorber panels are used to reduce the reverberation.
In the small Kai studio, conventional ceiling loudspeakers are used as voice alarm loudspeakers, and mobile loudspeakers for supporting events.
